Classes and events
Macleod, Melbourne or other venues

This is different kind of art class. The materials available are upcycled or donated and you have time to be creative. You will transform broken crockery, stone, glass and other materials into a mosaic or mixed media you can treasure for your home or garden. These creative sessions are held in my studio garden in Macleod, north east Melbourne, or at a venue that suits you. After some planning and drawing time, dive right in and start making your own piece.

No experience is necessary. Even young children can assemble and glue pieces to make something colourful and joyful. Many people find the process of making mosaics very relaxing and meditative and time just slips away.

Using reclaimed items is cost-effective, sustainable and creative way to create something you can be proud of for your home or garden.

Workshop overview

These sessions give you an introduction to the basics of mosaics, to get your brain and hands working to make patterns in a relaxing and supportive environment.

You will have access to
  • Source material, books and photos for inspiration
  • Upcycled crockery, tiles, glass and other items
  • Tools and materials
  • Advice about working safely
  • Substrates (bases) tools, adhesive, gloves, safety glasses

People work at different paces, depending on whether they have already contemplated and drawn up what they would like to make. Some may finish their piece in one workshop. Others will need a follow-up session to complete their work. Grouting, if needed, is done at least 24 hours afterwards.

What to bring

Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. If you have an old cup, plate or other item you would like to include in your mosaic, please bring this along. Wear solid shoes, and comfortable clothing. Optional items: apron, rags, water bottle.

To secure your spot in a workshop, payment is due one week before the workshop date.
A 25% cancellation fee will be charged if you cancel within a week and can't come another time.

Please register your interest for workshops via the contact form or call Amanda 0413 997 467.

Testimonials
Thank you for a wonderful afternoon creating mosaics. Mum and I really enjoyed ourselves.
You are a wonderful inspiration. (Anna, workshop participant)
Making mosaics with Amanda is to immerse myself in a world of shape and colours that calms the mind and soothes the soul. My little collection of pieces for the garden is steadily growing. It feels good to let the artist in me come out and play every once in a while. (Lisa, workshop participant)
